Haiku-a-day
Five ducks wake up on a dock and get into a small pond.

Looking for haikus,
wakened from their sleeping spot,
five ducks start their day.

Haiku-a-day
A cloud against blue sky and a tree changing color in autumn reflected in a shallow river.

Clouds in the river,
all of our words disappear
and go to nothing.

Haiku-a-day
A white-tailed deer crosses a path with long evening tree shadows cast across it.

Against long shadows
cast on the path we’re walking,
the young deer crosses.

Haiku-a-day
A Red-spotted purple butterfly sunning on goldenrod.

Red-spotted purple
making due with a torn wing,
tasting goldenrod.

Haiku-a-day
A deer leaps off of a walking path with shadows across it and showing the silhouettes of two people walking.

Mixed with the shadows
on the path in September,
there’s us and the deer.

Haiku-a-day
A happy handsome black and white dog stands on labyrinth bricks on green grass in late summer.

The look that he gives
on walks, in forests, green grass
that says contentment.

Haiku-a-day
A cancelled floral stamp in a small dish.

The world of others
is a comfort and burden —
the goodnights, goodbyes.

Haiku-a-day
An early evening blue sky with mackerel sky clouds gathering at sunset.

The sky telling me
that September is coming,
I must change again.
