Woodpeckers are out,
a flock of titmice chatting—
camaraderie.

The tender life of
a forest mushroom, or an
October flower.

Fragile in the world—
holding the world together,
these soft, beautiful things.

Like the Milky Way,
like a curled listening ear,
this blue turkey tail.

Interdependence—
the turkey tail’s blue ripples,
the blue of the lake.

The blue firmament,
blue as shadows cast by snow,
blue as turkey tails.

Life on this blue ledge,
constantly thinking of luck—
all the miracles.

April is my month—
it's the month of poetry,
belief, rewarded.
